IJG is 5 months old!

12.6.09

This month IJG learned to roll from back to tummy. Now he can roll both ways and is constantly rolling when on the floor, or in his crib, or during diaper changes...lots of fun! Once he learned to roll the other way, he pretty much stopped waking and rolling over all through the night, but now he wakes between 4 and 6 am...several times. I've tried putting him to bed later but it doesn't seem to help and he usually conks out around 7 pm. He has also decreased the length of his naps and will sleep for about 40 minutes in the morning and about an hour in the afternoon. Naps and bedtime are a bit of a battle since the rolling started. Unless he is totally out of it when we put him down, we have to pat him to sleep or he will roll around and talk/yell instead of sleeping. We often have to do this when he wakes during naps and throughout the morning to get him back to sleep. IJG has also found his feet this month and loves to hold them during diaper changes. He is working on sitting, but still easily topples over. IJG is breastfeeding 6 times a day and can assist with feeding himself if fed from a bottle. IJG got sick a few weeks ago with fever and phlegm. He also got me sick. This was the 2nd time he has been sick, the first was at 2 months. This time was definitely worse and it was clear he was not feeling well. He is still working on getting his first 2 teeth in. IJG likes his baths (we've introduced toys), diaper changes, playing with his toys, when we talk/sing to him, and when we tickle his tummy. He smiles and giggles all the time, especially if we laugh.

the reverse roll has been mastered!

I had a feeling IJG had learned to roll from his back to tummy based on the way I found him in his crib yesterday morning and after his nap. Then, in the afternoon, we were playing on the floor and he rolled right over. By evening he wouldn't do anything but roll over.

Here's a video of IJG giggling with daddy and rolling from back to tummy last night.

Here he is this morning. I used to put him under his play gym, on his back, while I got ready in the morning and knew he couldn't go anywhere. I had a feeling it wouldn't work this morning. I no longer have a stationary baby!

IJG is 4 months old!

11.6.09

IJG has made a lot of progress in the last month. He started holding and chewing on toys, he rolls over from tummy to back, and he rolls from his back onto his side, but can't yet roll completely over. He also has 2 teeth! Both his lower, middle teeth broke through about a week ago. He's been a drooling mess since, but didn't have any problems otherwise. He is much easier to entertain now. Between talking to him and putting him on the floor with toys, he is pretty happy. He also enjoys his diaper changes, bath time, and walks in the carrier or stroller. He loves to look around outside or in stores and doesn't just fall asleep every time he's in the carrier now. This is very helpful, since I'd rather have him entertained while we are out so he'll nap at home and give me time to get things done. He is sooo happy. It's easy to get him to smile and he giggles when we tickle his feet, hands, or tummy. IJG goes to school for 3 hours a day during the work week so I can work from the office during that time. He has done quite well and just completed his second week there. He doesn't seem to mind when I leave him and doesn't notice too much when I return. I don't want him to be upset, but I'd kinda like him to prefer my company to that of strangers!!! I'm sure he'll hit the age where he freaks upon my leaving before too long. IJG is still a big boy but his growth has greatly slowed and he's approaching the norm for his age. At 2 months he was at the 90th percentile for weight and he is now at the 70th percentile at about 15.5 pounds. He is 25 1/4 inches long which is the 55th percentile for length.

IJG rolls over

Here's a vid of IJG rolling over in bed...the only place he's done it so far...it's just part of his wake up routine.

trip to CO

We're back from Denver. I can't say it was the most enjoyable trip, but I had to present my poster...and at least it was paid for.

We were hoping to escape the Texas heat and enjoy cool/cold weather in Denver. Other than the first morning, it was very warm in Denver, and another cool front went through Texas. It was actually warmer in Denver!

Here's a pic from that cold morning. We were waiting to get into a popular breakfast place and IJG fell asleep.

10.17.09

We spent a lot of time playing with IJG in the hotel room. His interest in holding and chewing toys finally arrived while we were away. We also visited a few parks.

Another skill IJG picked up while away is rolling over. He can now roll over from his tummy to his back, only rolling over his right side. Here's the photographic evidence. This is how I found him Monday morning. He now ends up on his back after every nap and every morning. It's actually disrupting his sleep. He is rolling over throughout the night and laying awake talking to himself. Last night was better, so hopefully he'll get over the novelty of it soon.

While in Denver, I was attending the American Dietetic Association Food & Nutrition Conference & Expo. Here's a pic of Ellie Krieger (the RD on Food Network) performing a food demo.

Tuesday, the last day we were in Denver, was the day I had to present my poster at the conference. Here's a pic of my poster. It's 5' x 2.5'.

Here's a pic of me leaving the conference...loaded down with loot from the expo, my poster and a coworker's poster, the baby bag, and baby...real excited about the 20 hr trip home.

it's Fall

It's finally cool in Texas! Friday night it dropped into the upper 50s and has stayed cool the entire weekend. We finally got to bundle up our cutie.

Here he is Friday evening ready for bed:

Saturday we went to the pumpkin patch to pick a pumpkin for NJG to carve. IJG was hungry so he was more interested in eating his hands or hoodie than posing for pictures.

Can you tell which one is my little pumpkin?
