first day of preschool

IJ started preschool last Monday, August 20 and attends school Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8 - 2:45.  He is still at the same school but now he's really a student.  He is now in the monkey classroom and the class size is much bigger with about 20 kids.  He even has homework now.  So far this just consisted of clipping favorite foods from magazines, explaining any meaning behind his name and we have to make a book about him.  As usual, IJ had no problems moving on to a new class and new teachers.  There are only 2 other students from his previous class in the monkey classroom.  Here he is on the first day of school last year.

Sylvan Beach

We finally made it to the beach this summer while grandma and grandpa were visiting.  The last time we went was over a year ago.  This was ZJ's first time at the beach and first time to experience sand.

swim lessons

IJ took swim lessons the last two weeks of July.  They were 30 minutes each, Monday through Thursday and located at his school's indoor or outdoor pool depending on the weather.  He started off refusing to blow bubbles in the water or put his head under and by the last few days was "swimming" under water short distances and putting his head under just for fun.  He definitely needs more lessons but I'm going to wait till next summer.  ZJ and I did not enjoy ourselves out in the heat watching IJ swim at 3 pm each day.

ZJ is 10 months old!

ZJ’s new favorite activity is standing. She crawls quite quickly and pulls up on everything to stand. She occupies herself quite well by getting into everything and pulling everything off of surfaces. She is finally making consonant sounds which started with “ba ba” and now include “ma ma” too.

In addition to breastfeeding on demand ZJ now eats lunch and dinner at the table. She is doing much more eating and a bit less smearing food all over herself. Her pincher grasp has greatly improved and she can pick up quite small pieces of food and bring them to her mouth. She seems to really enjoy eating and likes everything we’ve given her.

Her sleeping is still quite random. Most days she only takes one nap. She usually requires me putting her to sleep at least 3 times between 7 and 10 pm and then wakes up frequently during the night. She usually breastfeeds and falls right back to sleep but occasionally decides she wants to be up. She wakes between 6 and 7 am usually.

She completely stopped sucking her thumb this month.  I find this fascinating since her 3 year old brother  STILL sucks his thumb.

ZJ was sick once this month but seemed to only feel bad for a day with a runny nose and sneezing.
